to Infinity: Dr. L. James Shields (shown here)
invented the MacroScope out of his lifelong frustration
over not being able to view animals and plants in the beloved
Alaskan tidal marsh below his house without disturbing them.
His homemade models were amazing, allowing all who could
get their hands on one to see wonders they never imagined
seeing before. From infinity all the way down to 18 inches
without moving or bending! And with the buttery smooth,
totally intuitive, side-mounted focus wheel, following a
bee as it pollinated a flower was as easy as viewing something
as static as Mt. McKinley, also visible from Dr. Shields’
backyard.
